About the Job:
The role holder will be responsible for delivering a range of projects such as, IT, new business implementations, facility upgrade projects, digital initiatives, and other strategic projects. Projects to be delivered within agreed timescales and budgets, ensuring smooth and successful implementation and start-up. The Project Manager will collaborate with a range of business functions as required, including operations, IT, HR and HS&E, orchestrating activities to deliver the necessary scope, whilst managing risks and issues.
Project Management:
• Ensure projects are correctly scoped and defined, with clear objectives, appropriate workstreams and activities.
• Create project plans in accordance with the required project activity and workstreams, ensuring that project teams are resourced correctly.
• Manage projects to cost, quality and time, adhering to the Yusen project management methodology and implement the agreed framework and governance into each project.
• Coordinate internal workstreams/resources and third-party vendors in line with defined project deliverables.
• Apply problem solving skills to resolve any roadblocks that arise, escalating in a timely manner any issues that may affect delivery.
• Conduct rigorous assessment of project risks, monitor and control until project closure/handover, highlighting any deviances or issues as appropriate in a timely manner.
• Full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment and handoff to support.
• Report on project success criteria results.
• Perform post project reviews and improvement plans.
• Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence.
• Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks and issues.
• Communicating across leadership.
• Understand interdependencies between technology, operations, and business needs.
Communication:
• Establish collaborative relationships and maintain a strong level of communication with internal stakeholders across the business, as well as with customers and suppliers as appropriate.
• Schedule and facilitate project meetings, steering committees and other meetings as required, preparing presentations and materials as necessary.
• Ensure regular project updates are provided into the PMO and with key stakeholders.
• Escalate issues and concerns as appropriate to steering group/ Project Sponsor.
• Document and communicate project ‘lessons learned’ in conjunction with the company methodology to support and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
People
• Identify skills required in the project team to meet the business objectives. Support development of the team via effective advice and coaching as necessary.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures and policies, both in terms of self and across the project team.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED LEVEL OF EDUCATION
• At least A-levels / NVQ. Bachelors Degree (desirable).
• Relevant Project Management qualification (Strongly desirable).
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
• Project management experience, with a track record of successful project delivery using Agile, SCRUM and Waterfall methodologies.
• Strong leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills across functions, cultures and geographies including the ability to lead up, across and down multiple business and technology organizations.
• Experience of managing projects such as IT/digitization, implement of new business and/or start up new operations is desirable.
• Experience influencing and gaining buy-in from sponsors, team members, stakeholders and peers.
• Proven ability to work in an ambiguous environment and collaborate across multiple areas in order to achieve a common business objective.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• A good degree of organizational, communication and administrative skills, with a strong delivery focus.
• Open, honest and transparent leadership style.
• Ability to motivate self and others, working alongside operational teams to meet challenging deadlines.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, suppliers and customers from varied backgrounds and cultures.
• Able to engage and influence others, building and maintaining strong relationships – both internally and externally to the business.
• Strong presentation skills – able to create professional and effective slide decks to support scope development, project meetings and status reporting, etc.
• Demonstrates effective communication by providing regular feedback and guidance to meet performance expectations, using effective coaching techniques to counsel employees, maintaining two-way dialogue, and discerning when to share information and when to keep sensitive matters confidential.
