We are looking for a Business Development Manager – Ocean and Air Freight.
As a Business Development Manager, you will create sales opportunities for our freight forwarding activities with businesses primarily across the Midlands. Specifically, you will focus on new business acquisition, taking on a hunter mentality and proactively seeking opportunities for growth, increased market share and enhanced revenue.
To achieve your goals, you’ll target a pipeline of qualified potential clients as well as generating international sales leads. You’ll work with the management team to identify opportunities, creating targeted management plans for specific products and consistently pursue targets.

Key responsibilities:
1. New Business Acquisition
· Build and maintain a pipeline in Microsoft Dynamics in accordance with company guidelines
· Target and qualify a list of potential clients in focus trade lanes identified by Yusen IFF and Sales Management
· Gain new business and target new trade lanes within client selection
· Provide client and target information, maintain CRM with 100% accuracy on every sales call and visits.
· Plan and achieve minimum number of sales calls per week (between 5-10)
· Generate sales leads to overseas offices and networks
· Establish strong relationships to customers as well as colleagues
2. Sales Production
· Engage with the IFF management team to facilitate identification of opportunities and review target management plan continuously
· Drive business development reviews and to ensure that CRM is updated to the highest standards
· Ensure detailed SOPs are in place for all new clients onboarded
3. Adhoc
· Monthly review of performance and action plan setting (where needed)
· Regular presentations of pipeline and activities using Microsoft Dynamics (dashboard) to management
· Drive IFF webinars and share market intel from both the industry and forwarding environment
Key requirements:
· Proven sales experience of in a multi-national freight forwarding company
· Excellent knowledge of the UK ocean freight market
· Has completed Professional Selling training – either through an external trainer or in-house
· Ability to identify market leads and convert them into business opportunities
· Flexible and proactive approach
· Excellent stakeholder influencing skills
· Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
· Ability to critically analyse information, present to the relevant stakeholders and provide recommendations
· Strong drive for results
· High degree of independence
· Commercial acumen
· Driving licence (travel will be required)
